Joey Reimman - The Story of Purpose

February 21, 2023 by John Makarewicz

This book is all about the importance of purpose in our personal and professional lives, and how discovering and living out our purpose can have a transformative impact on our careers, relationships, and overall well-being.

One of the things I love about this book is that it's not your typical self-help or business book. It's written in a storytelling style that is engaging and easy to read, and Joey Reiman does a great job of weaving in personal anecdotes and real-world examples to illustrate his points.

What I found particularly powerful about "The Story of Purpose" is that it goes beyond just discussing the benefits of living a purpose-driven life. It also provides practical tips and exercises to help you uncover your own purpose and start living it out on a daily basis. I found myself taking notes and jotting down ideas as I read, which is always a sign of a good book in my opinion.

Overall, I highly recommend "The Story of Purpose" to anyone who is looking to find greater meaning and fulfillment in their life and work. Whether you're a recent graduate just starting out in your career, a seasoned professional looking to make a change, or simply someone who wants to live a more purposeful life, this book has something to offer.

Gabriel García Márquez - One Hundred Years of Solitude

February 14, 2023 by John Makarewicz

"One Hundred Years of Solitude" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a timeless classic that masterfully blends magical realism with historical events to create a captivating and dreamlike narrative. The book tells the story of the Buendia family and the town of Macondo, where they live, through multiple generations and a century of solitude. Marquez's vivid and imaginative writing style transports the reader to a world where the extraordinary becomes ordinary and the magical coexists with the everyday.

The book's themes of love, solitude, and the cyclical nature of life are universal, and the characters are complex, flawed, and relatable. Marquez's use of symbolism, allegory, and fantastical elements adds depth to the story and makes it much more than just a simple family saga. "One Hundred Years of Solitude" is not just a book to be read, but an experience to be savored, and one that will stay with the reader long after the final page has been turned. This is a must-read for fans of magical realism, Latin American literature, or anyone looking for a unique and captivating read.

John Wooden - On Leadership

February 13, 2023 by John Makarewicz

For me, this could have been the last book written on the art of leadership. I first discovered the book around eight years ago and it immediately struck me how much many new authors on leadership pull from John Wooden’s example. A must read for anyone in any sort of coaching/leadership/influencing role.

I actually love the fact this book is only available in written form—no audible/audiobook. This is one to be studied and revisited—not listened to while driving down the highway!

Pick it up!
