I don’t think anyone has come close to capturing JJ Cale’s style of laid-back cool quite like Ramsay Midwood. Clearly influenced by JJ but with his own spin, this album is in heavy rotation around my house, particurarly in the summer months.
"Blue" Gene Tyranny - Out of the Blue
“Blue” Gene Tyranny was an avant-garde composer and multi-instrumentalist who worked throughout the 60s well into the 80s. This album here is a mind-blower. The opening track Next Time Might Be Your Time has been on consistent rotation for me for years. Super interesting composition and structure is utilized here.
Eric Burdon Declares "War"
Fresh off his departure from The Animals, Eric Burdon declared a new musical chapter with 'Eric Burdon Declares War'. Teaming up with a young band in LA , War, this album showcases the raw synergy of their collaboration. 'Tobacco Road' is an absolute all-timer—maybe one of my favorite tracks of all time—and 'Spill the Wine' is maybe one of the cooler tracks ever recorded. Notably, this album marks War's debut project.
Father John Misty - Pure Comedy
Brilliant album. Maybe the best album of the 21st century so far.
