Starting Strong with Servant Leadership
My advice for anyone stepping into a leadership role is to spend as much time as possible close to the ground—talking to frontline workers and learning about their everyday challenges. You’ll uncover valuable insights that can shape the way you lead and the strategies you adopt.
A culture that embraces feedback and isn’t afraid of change is essential. When you do get feedback that conflicts with “the way we’ve always done things,” be prepared to shake things up. Sometimes that “crisis” is exactly what an organization needs to grow.
Also, remember that servant leadership is often a mindset. If it doesn’t come naturally, invest in learning. Seek out a coach, read extensively, and observe leaders who excel at putting people first. Over time, you’ll cultivate the skills needed to empower your team rather than simply manage them.
